As you know, half of the ESMTB Board (myself, Christine Jacob, Eva Kisdy,
Hans Westerhoff, Jean-Christophe Poggiale) will be stepping out at the end
of the year. The other half (Andrea Pugliese, Andreas Deutsch, Daphne
Manoussaki, Miguel Herrero, Peter Jagers) will continue for the next 3
years. Therefore, elections were held to choose the new Board members for
the period 2012-2017.
Let me first thank deeply, on behalf of ESMTB, our generous and dedicated
members that have accepted and were later nominated by the General Assembly
as candidates to the elections. Let me also thank all those members that
have voted and thus contributed to the future of ESMTB.

So, the five elected new members of the Board are Barbara Boldin, Vitaly
Volpert, Reinhard Bürger, Ryszard Rudnicki and Roeland Merks, who will
replace the outgoing members of the Board for the 2012-2017 mandate.
On congratulating warmly the new Board members, I wish the new Board all the
best. With the continuing support and help of all ESMTB members, I am sure
the new Board will proceed in the path set up by our predecessors of
continuous progress of ESMTB and of Mathematical Biology.
It is time to thank the members that have collaborated with the Board on
several functions. Among them, I am particularly grateful to past Presidents
Mats Gyllenberg and Vincenzo Capasso and past Board member Helen Byrne.
To my fellow Board members and to the Advisors (previous President Wolfgang
Alt, Ryszard Rudnicki) to the Board I have no right words to express my
feelings. We were team mates. We are friends and that is the outcome of
these years of collaborative efforts that I value the most.
On behalf of the current Board, let me express my deepest gratitude to all
ESMTB members for their support, one of the reasons behind the considerable
progress ESMTB has experienced. It was hard work, but also a great pleasure
and honor, to have served the Society.
